Community Development

The Community Development area is responsible for planning and conducting projects that will give our chapter a better awareness and commitment to the needs and concerns of the Annapolis Area. The Community Development Area is committed to helping the community at large through projects targeted for children, the elderly, and the underprivileged. Community fund-raisers provide funds to be allocated to such projects and for donations. Our chapter is proud to plan projects that will significantly change the community through active involvement.

    COMMUNITY SERVICE:

    These projects are designed to promote or improve the quality of life of community members. Any project that involves working directly with the public is included. such Lighthouse Shelter, Special Olympics, Holiday Food Baskets, Back-To-School Shopping Spree, and grants to the Hugh O'Brien Fund and various other charities.

     

    COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING:

    These are projects that deal with raising funds for a specific program. These include; health related organizations, foundations, and any other community charities.

     

    INTERNATIONAL INVOLVEMENT:

    These are projects that provide assistance or promote understanding and communications between the chapter and the international community. uch as as International Night Dinners, USO Packages for the Troops

    GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT:

    These are projects that are of a governmental nature and are designed to provide better services and promote involvement in local government.

    such as School Board Nominating Convention, Political Debates, and promoting the US Census.

PROJECTS

Lighthouse Shelter - We prepare and serve dinner at the local shelter four times per year.

Relay for Life - The Jaycees support Relay for Life through donations and participating in local 'relays'

Special Olympics - The Annapolis Jaycees coordinate the Anne Arundel County Special Olympics competitions in swimming, track and field at the U.S. Naval Academy. 

USO Package Stuffing For the Troops - Twice per year we assist the USO at Ft. Belvoir by stuffing care packages for troops oversees.

Holiday Food Baskets - We provide a holiday meal for local families in need plus clothes and toys for each child in the family.   The Jaycees collect canned food donations from the community and raise funds to shop for clothes and toys and deliver the items to the families in early December.

School Board Nominating Committee - The Jaycees participate with other local community organizations to recommend  members for the school board.

International Dinner Night - Several times each year the Jaycees spend an evening at a local restaurant with an international theme to learn about the food and culture of that country.   Restaurants visited have included Sakura Japanese Steakhouse and Old Stein Inn

Bark-N-Bash - Bark'n'Bash is a festival put on by Quiet Waters Dog Park featuring canine costume contests, games, and entertainment.   The Jaycees host a food booth serving up hamburgs/hotdogs, chips, sodas, and coffee!    A portion of the proceeds is donated to the dog park.
