FAQs

Who are the Jaycees?

The Jaycees are a community organization for young people age 21 - 40. Our goal is leadership
training through community service. There are local chapters like the Annapolis
Jaycees, which are part of the state organization (The Maryland Jaycees) and in turn part of
the national organization (The United States Jaycees) and the international organization (Junior Chamber
International).

What do the Jaycees do?

The Annapolis Jaycees provide the opportunity to learn new skills, help the community,
and network through a variety of events and projects run by its chapter members.

What is expected of me if I join?

There are no mandatory meetings or projects. Every month you will receive a newsletter with a calendar
of upcoming events. Pick and choose the events that are both interesting and convenient for you. It has
been said that you get out of the Jaycees, what you put into it.

What kind of projects do the Jaycees run?

We run projects in 4 different areas:
Membership - These are the fun and social projects. Some examples are: Happy hour,
parties, picnics, trips to various amusement parks and scavenger hunts.
Individual Development - These are projects designed to help members learn new things. Beer
and wine tasting, golf lessons, public speaking skills and the "How to buy a home" seminar are some
of the projects we sponsor.
Community Development - These projects help the community and charitable organizations in
the community. We have environmental projects, kids programs, senior programs, and many other
community oriented projects.<br>
Management Development - These projects help our members develop skills that will help
them throughout their lives. Included here are fund raising, project management, public relations
and communications.

How do I suggest an idea for a project?

Any member of the board can be approached with an idea you might have for a project; even the President.
You may be asked to present the idea by answering the first seven questions of the CPG which will give
the details on who, what, where, when, and how your idea will be executed. The idea is then brought
before the board for approval and insertion into the calendar of events.

What is a CPG?

CPG stands for Chairman’s Planning Guide which is a planning and evaluation tool utilized to effectively
run Jaycee projects. There are ten questions on the CPG that are answered during the planning and
implementation process of each project. For those in business, you might know it as a project plan.

How do I run a project?

Just tell a board member which project you would like to run! You will be set up with the CPG Survival
Kit and given further instructions and support as needed to help make your project a success.

What is Springboard?

Springboard is an individual activation program to aid chapters in involving new members in chapter
activities. A Springboard certificate is available for presentation to those members meeting the
defined criteria (see the form enclosed in the New Member Kit when you join).

What are the Degrees of Jaycees?

The Degrees of Jaycees is a program designed to help individual members receive the benefits of their
membership. It is a Junior Chamber career path. The program consists of ten degrees divided into
three phases. The first phase is completed either by completing three degrees or Springboard.
